Questions
Who would you say is the most influential designer or architect in your career?
My college professor, Mary Helen Pratt, FIIDA. She taught her students "real world" design by involving us in actual projects with real clients. Under her instruction we learned how to program with a budget and were taken along on site visits of projects under construction.
What is your favorite piece of furniture?
A rocking chair my mother-in-law gave to my husband and me. It has been passed down through three generations thus far, and we plan to continue the legacy with our children and grandchildren.
What is the most fun you have had in this industry?
I had the wonderful opportunity to serve as the vice president of professional development for the Rocky Mountain IIDA Chapter from 2006-2007. It was amazing to have the opportunity to share that experience with such a dedicated, selfless and creative group of people.
What is your favorite indulgence?
My weakness is for great coffee. I blame college all-nighters in the UTSA Design Studio for this lasting addiction!
What is something you cannot live without?
I could not live without the support and encouragement of my family. My husband Chris and our two daughters Nikki and Sophie are a constant reminder to me of why I became a designer: to make the lives of people better through design.
What CD is in your car right now?
It depends what time of day it is. When my girls are in the car with me, we listen to High School Musical II or Disney Princess (sadly, I know the words by heart and can now sing along). When I am in the car by myself, I enjoy the more grown-up music of James Blunt or Jack Johnson.
