GSA Case Study: Veteran’s Administration Medical Center
(Denver, Colorado)
A critical need for more clinical space at the Denver VA Medical Center prompted the center’s financial administrators to relinquish their offices for clinical use and move to a nearby office building.
PAST FEATURES:
The Challenge
Having secured the entire second floor of the 12-story Mountain Towers building, finding the right furniture became top priority. A solid work relationship with Maxon Dealer Craig Miller (Craig Miller LLC), and their strong satisfaction with Maxon products on numerous previous installations at the center, led VA officials to choose Craig and Maxon Furniture for the 45 workstations needed at the new site. Craig teamed with Maxon Representative Crystal Nodsle (Source Four) to help VA designers develop a space plan that best met the financial group’s needs. Because of the confidential nature of their work, privacy was paramount. Functionality, appearance, and ample storage space were also key considerations.
The Solution

Using the Maxon Inspirations program as the starting point to peruse options, Craig and Crystal helped VA officials quickly and easily identify the best workstation configuration, product features and colors. The customer chose an 8’ x 8’ L-shaped modular workstation configuration for functionality, as well as fully segmented, 3” thick, sound-absorbing Empower panels for privacy, appearance, and versatility. To maximize privacy, they chose 78” tall panels and sliding doors for each workstation.
The customer chose Inspirations Green 1 color palette with a few modifications. Having chosen the 3mm wood-look edge option, they were able also to match the edge trim with the same Windsor Mahogany laminate used on the actual work surfaces. To further enhance the overall look, the top panel segments utilized frosted glass.
For storage and functionality, they added slotted accessory segments for diagonal and horizontal paper trays, curved overhead cabinets with the easy-down option (allowing cabinet doors to automatically close slowly), keyboard trays, two pedestal files for each workstation, and additional lateral file cabinets on some outside panel walls and in two storage rooms.
The Result

VA administrators are delighted with their new digs. “They especially liked the overall look and functionality of the Maxon work pods,” said Craig. “Employees have the privacy they need to do their work effectively. They really like the design of their workstations, especially the sliding doors, easy-down overheads, and accessory rails.”
